Obtain site requirements first
A mine’s requirements can vary across work areas and roles. Ask for the written garment specification and identify any documentation needed for approval. A product marketed for mining is not automatically suitable for every operation. Compare the supplied details with the requirements rather than relying on a familiar colour or product name.
Choose for movement and equipment
Work shirts, trousers and conti suits offer different ways to assemble a uniform. Consider bending, reaching, seated work and interaction with other required equipment. Check fit and the placement of pockets and fastenings. If a garment will be worn over another layer, include that layer when checking the intended size.
Plan care and replacement
Dust, wear and laundering can affect the condition of workwear. Follow the care label for the chosen garment and use the employer’s procedures for inspection and replacement. Do not assume different fabrics tolerate the same cleaning process. Keep a clear record of the selected garment so future purchases can be compared with the approved specification.
Make the procurement record useful
For a workforce order, provide quantities by garment and size, preferred colours and any branding. Identify the delivery location and approval contact. Resolve missing product details before the order is confirmed. Where the site requires a sample or additional documentation, build that check into the process instead of treating it as something to address after delivery.
